Underscreen fingerprint scanner wasnt ready in time for Galaxy S8

Samsung Galaxy S8 is the first Galaxy device to come without a home button on the front in the history of S-series smartphones. This might look like a big step for Samsung, but the Korean company actually wanted to go even bolder - the Galaxy S8 had to use the fingerprint technology that puts the scanner under the glass and lets you unlock the phone by placing a finger on the screen.

Samsung Galaxy S8 is about to have a big display with an 18,5:9 ratio and the Korean giant knew the front-mounted home button had to go. It decided to implement the fingerprint technology underneath the AMOLED display and poured resources into Synaptics optical tech, but the results were "frustrating" and Samsung bailed out of the technology at the last minute.

With the production imminent, the company decided to place the fingerprint scanne r on the back, right next to the camera, which explains its unorthodox location.

Apple is also reportedly removing its home button from the next iPhone and will have a ‘Function Area’ that resembles a Touch Bar. The company is also interested in the onscreen fingerprint scanner and having six more months than Samsung it might actually get it.

Xiaomi teases tomorrows event to launch the Redmi Note 4 maybe

Xiaomis July 27 event brought the Redmi Pro instead of the expected Redmi Note 4, but the Note 4 is still coming - very soon perhaps. A moderator over at the MIUI forum posted some teaser images.

Those images are marked with a date - July 25, tomorrow! The moderator dropped hints about how popular the Redmi Note 3, but then a week ago we saw the smaller Redmi 4 leak. So its not 100% clear which one of the 4th gen Redmis were getting. Thats not the end of it either, a flagship Xiaomi Mi Note 2 with a Snapdragon 821 is also in the mix.

If we see the Xiaomi Redmi 4 tomorrow, we expect a 5" 1080p screen, Snapdragon 625 chipset, 4,100mAh batte ry and a low price - ~$100 for the 3GB/32GB model (and theres a 2GB/16GB one planned too).

If its the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 instead, then a Helio X20 chipset, 5.5" screen and a 4,100mAh battery are in order. There were indications of a dual-camera (13MP+5MP like the Redmi Pro), but some of the rumors may have gotten mixed up with the Redmi Pro, so thats less certain.

The Xiaomi Mi Note 2 was rumored for September 5, but the launch may have been pulled up. If thats the case, expect a Samsung-made AMOLED screen, Snapdragon 821 with 6GB of RAM, up to 128GB of storage and a fingerprint reader on the front of the metal body. The price should be around $375, $420 if you want the top storage version.
