Samsung says overheating issue in replacement Galaxy Note7 units does not pose a safety concern

While there have already been reports about replacement Samsung Galaxy Note7 units overheating in South Korea, a new Wall Street Journal report now says that similar complaints have been received by the company in the US as well.

In many cases, users have complained that the phablet gets very hot during calls. For its part, Samsung has acknowledged the complaints and has said that its investigating the matter. The company is, however, assuring users that the issue "does not pose a safety concern.”

"There have been a few reports about the battery charging levels and we would like to reassure everyone that the issue does not pose a safety concern," the tech giant said. "In normal conditions, all smartphones may experience temperature fluctuations."

The South Korean firm also said that its focusing on each case separately and trying to get it resolved through its custo mer service and warranty process.

New report says future 5 5 inch iPhone will have curved OLED display

A new report comes from The Nikkei Asian Review where the President of Sharp as well as another senior executive of the company both confirmed that next year’s iPhone will no longer be using the current LTPS display technology, but rather will be using OLED screens.

A remark made by Sharp president Tai Jeng-wu at Tatung University during a graducation ceremony to some of the school’s students hinted toward this. “The iPhone has been evolving and now its switching from LTPS to OLED panels. We don’t know whether Apple’s OLED iPhones will be a hit, but if Apple doesn’t walk down this path and transform itself, there will be no innovation.”

It is only in Apple’s best interest to innovate the iPhone as much as it can, for the product’s 10-year anniversary, no less. Apple has been plateauing lately and its growth is slowing down. In order for Apple to keep growing, it can’t afford to release more new phones with minimal hardware changes.

Tai says Sharp is committed to developing OLED technology for these displays, but Tai has also not specified exactly when Apple will start using these displays. If Sharp can do it, Samsung could have a new rival to the Super AMOLED display.

The Nikkei Asian Review recently reported that Apple has planned for three iPhone models next year with the premium 5.5 inch model sporting a curved OLED panel. The same report also stated that next year’s iPhone could feature a new chassis reminiscent of the iPhone 4 with a second slab of glass on the back. With those odds, perhaps Apple plans to add wireless charging to the new iPhone.

HTC Bolt has probably been certified by the FCC already

The HTC Bolt has been leaking at a steady pace over the past several weeks, most recently a few days ago when we saw it in a few live shots. Those were thankfully accompanied by a pretty comprehensive list of leaked specs, including the fact that its going to run Android 7.0 Nougat from day one.

Well, what do you know, the FCC has just certified a new HTC device that happens to be powered by that exact Android iteration. Since no other HTC handsets have been rumored to be close to launch with Nougat on board, we assume this is the Bolt. If so, its going to have the extremely awe-inspiring model number of 2PYB200.

The shots above come from the FCC certification process, showing you where you can locate the FCC ID for the device in its software. The FCC also confirms that the Bolt has 4G LTE, NFC, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi 802.11ac, but thats hardly surprising in this day and age. As usual, no ot her information has been outed by the agency.

However, that rumor from last week talked about the phone coming with a 5.5-inch 1080p touchscreen, an 18 MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture, an 8 MP selfie unit, 3GB of RAM, and 64GB of expandable storage. Its going to stand out for what its missing, as HTC plans to bid adieu to the 3.5mm headset jack with this model. The Bolt will be offered by Sprint in the US, but will get a global launch.

Teardown shows the Honor 6X internals in a controlled fashion this time

The popular midrange Huawei Honor 6X was subjected to a torture test yesterday, and its fair to say that it failed - a scratch-prone display is one thing, but the fact that the handset pretty much snapped in two when bent by hand raises some valid durability concerns.

If you want to be able to keep using your Honor 6X after finding out whats inside, this here teardown will help you with that task. A set of guitar picks and a couple of screwdrivers will go a long way towards achieving that goal.

The teardown reveals the step by step procedure for disassembly and names key components. Those include the Kirin 655 chipset, Hi6555 power management chip, Hi1102 Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chip, Hi6362 RF receiver - all HiSilicon banded. Theres also an SKhynix 4GB RAM chip and a SKY77648 Multiband Power Amplifier.

As for imaging the Honor 6X relies on an 8MP Sony IMX219 camera on the front, while the dua l camera setup on the back is a 12MP Sony IMX386 and a 2MP OmniVision OV2680 duo.
